On his death cert 1899 it says his "reputed" father was Cuthbert Williams - surgeon and that his mother was Agnes Duncan. On his marriage cert it says John Williams . What had Agnes been up to?

His occupation is given as Drapier on Alex's wedding Cert and was said to have been deceased at that stage - 1900
