John Williams is a part of US Black heritage.
On John Williams' enlistment record during the American Civil War, he was described as aged 23, 5'4" tall, light complexion, gray eyes, and black hair.[1] He was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania and was working as a cook.[1] His mail was to be directed to his adoptive parent, Henry Hallet of Bartleysville, Washington, Pennsylvania.[1] He was detailed to the hospital as a cook on 1 January 1864 and returned to duty on April 1st at Yellow Bluff, Florida.[1] He was again detailed for duty, but this time with the quartermaster department in January 1865 in the field.[1] He returned to his unit 21 April 1865.[1]
