Career

Robert Williams was the schoolmaster at Newport, Providence Co, RI.

In 1644 Robert accompanied his brother Roger to Boston as Roger was leaving to go to London, England to secure the Charter for Rhode Island.

During King Philip's War in 1676, his brother Roger wrote to Robert to prepare forts for the defense of the woman and children of Newport so that the Indians couldn't destroy the community as they had done in Providence in March 1676.

Genealogical Gleanings in England By Henry Fitz-Gilbert Waters states that Robert apprenticed himself to brother Sydrach at abt. age 17.
