Biography
Eli Williams was born in 1861 in Burslem, Staffordshire, England to Elijah Williams and Elizabeth (Pettigrew) Williams. His birth was registered in Wolstanton, Staffordshire in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Pettigrew.[1]
In 1871 Eli Williams (age 10, Potter) was a lodger in Burslem in the household of William While (23, Nail Maker) - also in the household were Eli's mother Elizabeth (33, Transferer At Pottery) and three brothers: Thomas (13, Potter), Elijah (7, Scholar), and George (4, Scholar).[2]
In 1881 Eli Williams (age 20, Potters Presser) lived at Greenhead in Burslem with his father Elijah (50, Bricklayer Lab), mother Elizabeth (46), and three brothers: Thomas (22), Elijah (17, Potters Presser), and George (14, Potters Presser).[3]
Elihu [Eli] Williams (age 21, son of Elijah Williams) married Amelia Ayres (age 19, daughter of John Ayres) on 4 Dec 1882 in Etruria, Staffordshire.[4] The marriage was registered in Stoke On Trent in the last quarter of the year.[5]
In 1891 Eli Williams (age 29, Coal Miner) lived in Hindley, Lancashire with his wife Amelia (27) and three children: Louisa E (5), Eujher G (2), and Frederick (1).[6]
In 1901 Eli Williams (age 39, Coal Miner Hewer) lived in Burslem, Staffordshire with his wife Amelia (38) and four children: Louisa Ellen (15, Potters Gilder), Thomas (9), Sarah Elizth (5), and Eli (2), as well as his visiting mother-in-law Sarah Ann Ayres (65).[7]
In 1911 Eli Williams (age 49, Coal Miner Hewer) lived in Burslem with his wife Amelia (48, Household Duties) and six children: Thomas (19, Colliery Servant Jigger Underground), Amelia (18, Tailor's Machinist), Sarah Elizabeth (15, Tailoress), Eli (12, School), Norman (0), and Louisa Ellen Heath (25, Potters Gilder), as well as his brother Thomas Williams (52, Can't Work / Formerly On Potters Placer).[8]
Eli Williams passed away in 1918, aged 57 years. His death was registered in Wolstanton in the last quarter of the year.[9]
