William was born on 9 May 1810, the son of Joshua Williams and Elizabeth Thurston, and christened the following day at Thornage. [1]. The record gives Elizabeth's maiden name as Thurston.
At the 1851 census[2] he is living in Holt and married to Susan, who was ten years his senior. He was a boot maker and she was born in Holt.
The details are the same at the 1861 and 1871 censuses, except her name is Susanna. By the 1881 census[3] Susanna has died and the household consists of William and a servant, Martha Hardingham.
Susanna was Susanna Dawson and they were married at Holt on 21 January 1836[4]. It was the first marriage for both.
They only seem to have had one child, a son named Benjamin Bray who died in 1842 aged five[5]. They were living in Austin Street, Kings Lynn at the time.
William died in 1886 and was buried at Thornage on 6 July[6].
