It is the only William/Margaret marriage. William's son, Eohraim used McCane in his first Census 1830. I have checked county by county NC, PA, Va, KY,TN and MD most of the counties along the Great Wagon Trail there is no other marriage. William and Margaret couldn't read or write English, so it would be relying on the person writing the name and their acscent saying the name. I got to go back and check the emigrations records. I think I remember an Margaret Williams coming over as an indentured Servant.

I posted this marriage because I was hope to get some responses, but you are not reading the marriage record. Look at the how much money is being paid. Is that word Indentured? Please tell me what you think is reads? Also one of the options I am pondering and have been for months is William is an runaway Indentured servant or knew Margaret from where she was serving/working off her contract. $1500 is a lot of money those are the two hints from this record. I have been full time trying to prove this is a valid marriage but Feb 2024 has pasted and still no leads for Margaret Williams nor William Cain. I have built a pretty big data base for the Cain/Cane/Kain/Kane/MacCain/MacCane/Maclain/McCain/McCane/McKain/McKane/ Cann/.McCann/McKine/Cean/Keen/Kean/McKeenMcKeanKeene/McKeene Census, Tax, marriages, land/deed/grants, records. Just started a william Cain folder and it will grow. I was hoping my comment explained it was not verified with another record, the marriage. Can say I am positive'cause I thought I was right only to be proven wong, ten fold. If I caused you lost time, I can take it down, or if it needs better comments please edit or past on your thoughts.

It's possible that the marriage between William McCain and Margaret Williams is this couple, but seems far from conclussive to me, especially since it's not the same surname and there are no records of William spelling his last name McCain.

I did a lot of digging today through Greene County, Tennessee records and records of surrounding counties and was unable to find any other records of this couple between 1790 and 1810.

The original marriage record shows McKine as William's last name. One of the orginal records uses William's name twice once as McKane and once as McKine. Neither William nor Margaret can read or write, (Noted from Census Records), continuing to search for supportting documents. Several Cains and Williams are in Greene County, TN at the time of the wedding.
