George was born in 1837 in Texas. According to census records, both his parents were born in Virginia.
In the 1870 census George (age 33), Laborer, was in East Salem, Marion, Oregon. His household included his wife Anna (age 24) and two children: George F (age 6, born in California) and Eliza (age 3, born in Oregon)[1]
In the 1880 census, George (age 43), House Renovator, was the married head of household in East Salem, Marion, Oregon, United States. His household included his wife Anna (age 40) and daughter Lulu (age 9).[2]
George died in May 1886 in Portland, Oregon[3], and was buried in Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, United States.[4]
"George M. Williams, a colored man, who for a number of years past has performed the duties of janitor in the building at the northwest corner of First and Morrison streets, died yesterday. Williams was an old pioneer, and at one time was employed about the state house at Salem." [Copy of newspaper notice included on Find a Grave memorial page.]
