Biography

Howard Winthrop (aka Anthony) Williams was born on January 2, 1928, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to Francis Anthony Williams, age 32, of Boston, and Louise Margaret (Riedel) Williams, age 29, of Kingston, MA. He was married to the late Pearl Marney Williams, of Osterville, MA. (Note: The middle name Anthony was often associated with Howard through high school but is actually his baptismal or confirmation name in the Catholic Church and as a result the middle name Anthony appears in many documents in his early life. Winthrop is Howard's legal middle name.)

Howard was a graduate and Senior Class President of Barnstable High School, Class of 1946. His many feats as an athlete in high school baseball and football are legendary.

A veteran of the WWII era, he served in both Korea and Japan as part of the US Army of Occupation. His post-war scholastic achievements included a BS in Mathematics (BSMath) from Boston College, an MS in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a Juris Doctor (JD) from Boston College Law School.

He led an inspired and challenging life that included being the loving father of five boys and a career in Systems Engineering, working with a variety of Federal agencies and corporations, including Lincoln Labs and the MITRE Corporation, where he was instrumental in the development of secure Defense Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, and Homeland Security technologies during the Cold War.

Howard was loved by all and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered as an honest, hard-working, good-hearted and compassionate man, who always enjoyed family, friends and a good laugh. Howard was loved by all and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
