Obituary:1948-South Missourian Democrat, January 22, 1948 and FEbruary 5, 1948
"Thomasville Man is Victim of Heart Attack — Waif Williams, well known resident of Thomasville, was found dead in bed at his home about 1:00 a.m. Wed. morning of this week, apparently the victim of a heart attack. Mrs. Williams said that he had seemed perfectly normal when they retired Tue. night, but had complained of the house being too warm, so she opened a door in their room and when she awakened again at about 1:00 a.m. she discovered that he had died. Mrs. Williams summoned her sister and bro-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Amos Bartzfield of Deering, N. Dakota, who were visiting in the Williams home. Deputy Coroner, Leland Carter of Thayer, who was called, said that apparently he had died shortly after retiring as the position of his body indicated that he had not moved. Mr. Williams was 49 years old and had been in business in Thomasville for some time. He was widely known in that section and the news of his sudden death comes as a great shock. Funeral services are to be conducted at the Methodist Church in Thomasville, with Rev. Napier and Rev. Kenneth Chapman under whose preaching Waif was converted a few months ago, conducting the service. Burial will be in the Thomasville cemetery under direction of the Carter Funeral Home.
Robert Waif Williams, son of Mr & Mrs A. J. Williams was born Nov. 18, 1891, and departed this life Jan. 21, 1948 at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 3 days. He moved with his parents to Thomasville in 1915, and with the exception of 7 years in Texas he has lived and been in business in Thomasville since that time. He was married to Cecillia E. Roberts, July 4, 1920. He was converted Nov. 30, 1947. He leaves to mourn his wife, Cecillia, his father, A.J. Williams, 2 brothers, Kib and David of Thomasville, 3 sisters, Mrs. Fred Williard of West Plains, Mrs. Stanley Germon of Mt. Grove, Mo. and Mrs. Wade Nicholas of Miamisburg, Ohio, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 23, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Napier and Rev. Chapman of West Plains officiating. Pallbearers were Owen Sherrill, Frank Bales, Tom Drum, Guy Floyd, Fred French and John Walton. Interment was in Woodside Cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer. The large congregation of friends in attendance and the large and beautiful floral offerings were indications of the high esteem in which Waif was held in this community. "
