Maternal line mitochondrial DNA test-takers:
The marriage of John Williams to Mary Dyer (the daughter of Edward Dyer and Mary Greene) is also included in Book Three of the Descendants of Roger Williams, The Sayles Line (p. 45).
I observe that the bold "Heads up" note in the bio was inserted to this profile by Vic Watt [Watt-266] on 3 December 2013. Once the Bennett article mentioned by Richard is made available for all of us to review, perhaps a G2G conversation should be initiated to address this point of controversy, being careful of course to include Vic on the thread. Please include me as well.
The Mary mentioned in the biography that was baptized on 25 January 1741 was the child of Mary Dyer and Christopher Helme; she was born posthumously of her father, and in his will he even mentioned that his wife was of child; it is confusing because she was not baptized until age 8; see Dudley Bennett article, described below
Mary Dyer DID marry John Williams. This Mary Dyer, daughter of Edward Dyer and Mary Greene, was born in 1701, and had two husbands, Christopher Helme (died 1732) and John Williams. She married John Williams on March 7, 1738, and died on December 20, 1740 (age 39). There is an exhaustive treatment of this Mary in a 1971 article published in the NYGBR by Dudley Bennett, entitled The Identity of Two Mary Helmes.
