James married Sarah Louisa Crisp, 13 Jul 1865, Williamson, Texas. She died in 1892.

J.H. Williams, 86, pioneer of Stephens County, died at the home of his son Greenville Williams at San Angelo. The body was transferred to Breckenridge and buried at the Clark Cemetery, near the old home place at Crystal Falls.
Williams came to Stephens County in 1871 and settled at Crystal Falls, later moving to a ranch north of Crystal Falls. Mr. Williams was active in community welfare work and was regarded as one of the foremost citizens of Stephens County during his long life in the county.
A few years ago, he went to San Angelo to make his home in his old age with his son.
His wife preceded him to the grave 40 years ago. Two children also preceded him to the grave: Mrs. Jack Campbell and Mrs. Alex Woods.
Survived by Mrs. Jack Johnson; James W. Williams; Mrs. B.G. Stover; Greenville Williams.
