I'm not sure who Jeff Towers is... do you have a link to his profile?
The best way to connect to the larger tree is to start with yourself and work backwards. When you try to add an ancestor that's already on WikiTree, a match will pop up and then you can connect to the existing branch. :)
You can also search for ancestors on WikiTree. I recommend using Google - just type wikitree + name, date, location of the person you're looking for, and that usually gets good results.
