Biography

Elizabeth Willemse was born on 29 July 1814 in Middelburg, Zeeland, Netherlands to Willem Willemse and Adriana Willeboordse. ^{[1] [2]}

Elizabeth married Arnold Westveer on 22 February 1839 in Veere, Netherlands. At the time of their marriage, she was 24 and working as a maid. He was 34 and working as a schoolmaster.^{[3] [4]}She was his third wife.

Elizabeth's level of education is not known, but it was reported she was unable to write in adulthood. ^[5]

Elizabeth (Willemse) Westveer migrated from Netherlands to United States.

Elizabeth migrated to the United States through Castle Garden in New York on 22 July 1854 at the age of 39. She came with her husband, Arnold, his and their children: Magdalena, Lein, Maria, Marge, Kate, and Welsh, and Arnold's daughter, Elisabeth. ^[6]

In 1860, Elizabeth and Arnold were living in the Buffalo City, Erie County, New York, United States with their children: Leyntye, Neeltje Johanna, and Lein. ^[7]

In 1865, Elizabeth was living in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, United States with children, Leonard and Nellie. She was reported to be the parent of 20 children. She was a widow and also an alien. ^[8]

In 1870, Elizabeth was living in Rochester, Monroe County, New York with her daughter, Nellie Claver, and with Henry Claver. ^[9]

In 1875, Elizabeth lived in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, United States with her daughter, Nellie Claver, son-in-law, Arnold Claver, grandchildren, Arnold Claver and Elizabeth Claver, and Henry Westvier who was listed as an adopted child. ^[10]

Elizabeth is buried at Fulton Street Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Kent County, United States. Dates of life are listed as August 1814 until 4 August 1881.
