Hi Laura! Thank you for adding sources and information to the Norton profiles. I have done some work on them and also proposed a few merges- let me know if you need any help with this. I am also happy to hand them over to you to be the Profile Manager, if you would like them, as they are your relatives, not mine. Thank you again, Simone.

Hi Laura,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hello Pip

Thanks for your offer. I read the contents of the link you attached. I am not ready to sign the honour code until I feel more confident. I have made several significant errors, (since resolved) and many smaller mistakes.

I initially started building a family tree on Ancestry after doing a DNA test. Dad had already made one for his ancestral line on Wikitree. My initial goal was to start building one on my Mother's side, as no one had done so before. Once I began making some progress, I decided to add it to Wikitree, which I found to be confusing and less user friendly at first.

When I started using Wikitree I did not realise how important sources were to include, and at first was not keeping a record of where I obtained my information. My intention is to backtrack and provide better source references for what I have already added. I have already started uploading some of the documents I have since obtained. At the same time I am unclear if I am breaching copy right to do so e.g. uploading PDF copies of documents purchased on line from Scotland's People. Plus, other information I have obtained through My Heritage from census records that I don't have copies of. So I cannot, in good conscience, sign the honour code, when I do not know if I am breaking it. Cheers Laura

Laura, I was in the same boat when I came to WikiTree. Lots if info and didn't keep track of where I got it. So, when I finally got the message, I started rebuilding my tree here using Family Search citations for my profiles. I had a database of some 50,000 people from 30 years of research (if you could call it that). Now that database is hopelessly out of date!

Just take your time, add sources as you go, and enjoy your journey.

Kind regards,

Pip

Hi Laura,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.
