John was born in 1780, in South Carolina. He married Lydia Morgan, widow of William Timmons, in 1806. They removed to Louisiana shortly thereafter. They had six children. He died in 1843, in East Feliciana, Louisiana, at the age of 63. He is buried there, in Jackson-White cemetery, alongside Lydia and several of their children.
