John was born in 1928. He passed away in 2004. Jack attended St. Edward's Grade School and graduated from Ursuline High School in Youngstown, Ohio. Upon graduation, Mr. Welsh joined the Marine Corps and was stationed at El Tara Air Base, Calif. At discharge, he was a staff sergeant. He then attended Marquette University where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical engineering in 1953. Jack and Mary Angela met though the Ohio club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received a master's degree from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1957. He was the first member of his family to go to college and because of that other members went to college too. John Welsh married Mary Angela Hoffman at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Fremont, Ohio, on Sept. 8, 1951. The couple was married 52 years. On the occasion of their 50th anniversary the couple celebrated with a Mass and were honored with a reception given by their children in Fremont, Ohio. Mr. Welsh was actively involved as a coach of Little League teams and as a high school CCD teacher. He was a member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church where he served as a eucharist minister. He was a volunteer at City of Light as a math instructor. He was also a member of the Tuesday Evening Poker Club. In 1993, he retired from Remington Products, Bridgeport, Conn., as manager of Information Systems. Upon retirement, Jack enrolled at Southern Connecticut State University, where he completed work for a teaching certification. He was, for several years, an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Conn., in the Information Systems Department. Five years ago, upon his wife's retirement, the two headed west on an adventure settling in Eagle, Idaho.
Mr. Welsh was an avid tennis player, playing with his Saturday morning partners at the Trumbull Racquet Club for 20 years. Golf, too, was an interest, along with travel, reading, and bridge. He was a member of the Golden Eagle Club and took great delight in visiting as many national parks as possible with his wife and faithful traveling dog, Chloe. Mr. Welsh was a devoted husband and father. His children and grandchildren were his great delight along with his girls at City of Light where he helped prepare the women for their GED tests in math and for which he received an Outstanding Senior Citizen Service Award from the Boise Rotary Club in 2003.

In the 1900's, and to lessening degrees through the middle of that century, left-handers were generally forced to write and eat right-handed. MaryLou taught his brother Jack, to write with his right hand. She learned to read and they would read together.

Jack started the Welsh's Family Easter Egg Coloring contest. He always like Easter because it was his favorite holiday. During the early years, the Welsh family lived in Pittsburgh while Jack was going to school at Carnegie-Mellon University.
