Biography

"Johann Henrich Weber, b. 1667 and christened at Eiserfeld Exaudi Sunday [the 6th Sunday after Easter] 1667, a posthumous child. The Roedgen church books show that Johann Henrich Weber, son of Johannes Weber, decd., of Eiserfeld, married Nov. 19, 1691 Anna Margarethe, daughter of Johann Huttmann of Eisern, and his wife Anna. Johann Huttmann d. at Eisern in 1697 and was buried at Eisern Dec. 19, 1697. His wife, Anna, d. 1689 and was buried Nov. 23, 1689. Though the intervening generations are at present unknown, the original ancestor of the Huttman family was Heintz Huttmann, who was living at Eisern as early as 1567, appearing in that year in the special tax list. Johann Henrich and Anna Margarethe (Huttmann) Weber lived at Eisern until 1713, when they emigrated to America with their sons John and Tillman, and their daughter Catherine. Johann Henrich Weber died either on the way over to Virginia or soon after arrival, for when the 1714 colony began work on the iron foundry at Germanna in 1716, his name is not included in the list. He died, therefore, 1714-16."[1]

Children born at Eisern (near Roedgen) and baptized at Roedgen[2]:

  1. Johannes, bapt. 1693; godfather Johannes Weber of Eiserfeld (probably his father's brother), presumably went to Virginia with his parents but no further record.
  2. Johann Henrich, bapt. 1696 and d. 1697; godparents Agnes Cathrin, daughter of Tillman Reinschmidt and Henrich Hofmann, who "would seem to be identical with Henrich Hofmann, b. 1666, uncle of John Huffman, the 1714 immigrant."[3]
  3. Cathrin, , b. 1697, "her godmother being Cathrin, wife of Johann Huttmann (Johann was probably Anna Weaver's brother). Cathrin Weber evidently came to Virginia with her parents, and became the second wife of Joseph Cuntz, the 1714 immigrant, dying prior to 1730, when Joseph Cuntz made his will."[4] Her step-daughter Anna Elisabeth married her younger brother Tillman.
  4. Tillman, b. 1701; his godfather was Tillmann Huttman, probably a brother of his mother. He emigrated to Virginia in 1713/4 as part of the Germanna colony and married Anna Elisabeth Kuntz, step-daughter of his sister Cathrin.

Weber-914 and Weber-4926 appear to represent the same person because: Approx same birth and death dates, same wife, same child.
