Biography

Ann Wadey, daughter of William Wadey and his wife, Elizabeth, was baptised at Billingshurst in Sussex on the 22nd of April 1827. ^[1] By 1841 she was in the service of Thomas Puttock shopkeeper of Billingshurst. ^[2]

In 1850 she gave birth to an illegitimate son, Albert, and was living at home with her parents at the time of the 1851 census. ^[3]

In 1854 in Southwark Ann married carpenter Jabez Gillam, son of John Gillam and his wife, Elizabeth Dowlen, ^[4] and they settled in Stoke near Guildford. ^[5] It seems that the marriage was not a success for the next two census returns find Ann and Jabez living apart. ^{[6] [7]}

Ann died in 1884, her death being registered at Croydon. ^[8]
