Johann Wacker was the youngest of 11 children born to Thomas Wacker and Maria Anna Röcher. He married Elisabeth Heiseler on 9 August 1853 in Ried im Oberinntal, Landeck, Tirol, Austria. They arrived in New York City on 30 June 1854 aboard the ship Schlosser. Final resting place of daughter Elisabeth (1870-1873?) is believed to be in Heidelberg.
