Biography

Lucia Vutera (sometimes Gutera or Butera) is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Matteo Vutera and Anna Streva. She is born around 1789, based on her reported age at death, making her 23 years old when she marries. In 1834, her reported age is 12 years younger.

Lucia marries Carmelo Cinquemani on 4 October 1812. Her father is living, and her mother has died by this time.[1]

Lucia and Carmelo have at least nine children: two daughters named Anna (1813 and 1822), Giuseppe (1814), Francesco (1817), Francesca (1818), Carmela (1825), Salvatrice (1828), Maria Rosa (1831), and Vincenza (1835).

The first daughter named Anna is born and baptized 28 September 1813. Her godparents are Simone and Giuseppa la Sala, a married couple. She dies on 5 January 1814 at three months of age.

Giuseppe is born and baptized on 18 December 1814, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Placido and Carmela Gutera, a married couple.

Giuseppe dies on 7 July 1816, at a year and a half of age.

Francesco is born on 26 May 1817 and baptized by the midwife, Gioachina Fanali. He dies the same day.

Francesca is born and baptized 27 December 1818, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Mariano and Maria de Luca, a married couple.

The second daughter named Anna is born and baptized on 23 May 1822. Her godparents are Maestro Vito and Anna Maria Ciramo', a married couple.

Carmela is born and baptized on 22 February 1825. Her godparents are Don Gennaro (Januarius) and Donna Anna Sala, a married couple.

Salvatrice is born and baptized 26 April 1828. Her godparents are Antonino and Maria Cutrono, a married couple.

Maria Rosa is born and baptized 23 March 1831. Her godparents are Giuseppe and Francesca Paola Crapa, a married couple.

In 1834, Carmelo Cinquemani, reportedly 40 (he is about 49, based on his age in 1807), lives on the strada di San Michele Arcangelo with his wife Lucia, reportedly 33 (she is about 45, based on her age at death), and their children Francesca, 15 (b. 1818), Anna, 12 (b. 1822), Carmela, 9 (b. 1825), Salvatrice, 6 (b. 1828), and Maria Rosa, 3 (b. 1831).

Vincenza is born and baptized on 31 August 1835. Her godparents are Arcangelo and Giuseppa Terrusa, a married couple.

The surviving Anna marries Gaetano Sabella on 10 November 1839, when she is 17 and her groom is 16 (based on his reported age at death). Lucia and Carmelo are still living at this time.

Carmela marries at least twice, first to Bernardo Maniscalco on 12 February 1843.

Salvatrice marries Francesco Ferrara on 21 September 1845.

Rosa marries Vincenzo Paternostro on 10 January 1850.

Vincenza marries Antonino Ferrara, Francesco's brother, on 5 June 1853.

Carmela marries again, to Salvatore Maria Canzoneri, on 20 January 1862. Her parents are still living at this time.

Camelo dies at age 80 (b. 1783) on 1 March 1863. Lucia survives him. This record calls her Rosa.
