I don’t think the birthplace name of Assumption, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada is correct, because that area is further Northeast into Ontario (above Lake Ontario) and not along the Detroit River.

My research has shown that Assumption was actually a mission (established in 1728 as “The mission of Our Lady of the Assumption”) in the area that is now Windsor. The area, in 1762, was home to many indigenous people and about 60 French settler families. It was named Petite Côte after the land was claimed by France in 1749. Essex County was established in 1749, so it would have been located in Essex County in 1762. But the Province of Ontario wasn’t established until 1867. The larger area in which the mission and Petite Côte existed was considered part of Upper Canada starting 1763, but I’ve not been able to determine what it was called just prior to that. I think a more accurate place name is “Assumption, Petite Côte, Essex County” possibly with an explanation in a Research Notes section in the Biography Box.
