Biography

Walter Vaughan of Golden Grove was the eldest son of John Vaughan II of Carmarthen, Wales MP and brother of Henry John Vaughan MP ^[1]

He was educated at Grays Inn ^[1]

In 1561 He married firstly Mary ferch Gruffyd ap Rhys, daughter of Gruffyd sap Rhys. ^[1]

He m2) post 1587 Lettice Perrot, the illegitimate daughter of Sir John Perrot MP and the widow of Rowland Laugharne of St. Brides, Pembrokeshire. ^[1]

In 1574 He succeeded his father

Walter Vaughan died intestate in 1598 and was succeeded by his son and heir John, afterwards Earl of Carbery ^[1]

Some sources give his first wife as Mary and others Katherine.

The Vaughans of Golden Grove claimed descent from Bleddyn ap Cynfyn , prince of Powys (q.v.). The first member of the family to settle at Golden Grove was JOHN VAUGHAN. His son, WALTER VAUGHAN m. (1) Katherine, second daughter of Gruffydd ap Rhys of Dinefwr and (2) Letitia, daughter of Sir John Perrot (q.v.). He was succeeded by his eldest son, JOHN VAUGHAN (1572 - 1634). ^[3]
