Biography

[Jana Vardeman Diamond] was born in Lubbock, Texas.

I became interested in genealogy as a child, when my grandparents told me stories about my relatives. It was fascinating, as a small child, to hear about the famous people - and the wild outlaws - that I was related to.

One of my favorites was when my grandfather Wilmer Vardeman would tell me about his great-uncles, who were horse thieves in Oklahoma. According to my grandfather, his people moved to Texas, and changed the spelling of their last name.

Another favorite was my grandmother Mary Mobley's story about the travelling salesman that "bothered" (molested?) one of her grandfathers' daughters. According to her story, the next time the salesman came by, her grandpa shot the man, killed him, chopped him, and burned the pieces in the woodpile. They also moved and changed the spelling of their last name.

In my research, I haven't been able to find these name changes at all! But I keep looking!

I played Little Dribblers basketball, on the team Loboettes, June 1973.[1]On Sept 2, 1973, the Levelland, Texas, paper ran the wedding announcement for my brother, Don Vardeman and his wife, Ann Holdman, where I am listed as a candle lighter.[2]Similar article, Sept 6, 1973, the Kermit, Texas, paper.[3]In October 1973, my mother entered the Sew it With Cotton Contest. She placed in the SugarPlum division, with a dress she made for me. [4]In November 1973, I was in a play at South Plains College, in Levelland.[5]I was on the Jr High Honor Roll, in Dec 1973 [6]

The obituary for my father, Bill Vardeman, March 1995, lists me as a surviving child.[7]
