(I)-Francois Vandal alias Precourt born 1651 Anjou, France died December 6, 1697 Pointe-aux-Trembles de Neuville, son of Etienne Vandal and Julienne Grule. Married March 19, 1680 Neuville, (III)-Marie Madeleine Pinel Daughter of (II)-Gilles Pinel and Anne Ledet (PQ447-422).

Francois Vandal was born at Vernantes... It was there that Francois Vandal would have been baptized about 1651, according to our Canadian information... The son of Etienne Vandal and of Julienne Grole left there one day to come to New France..."

"...The first mention of this ancestor among our people is found at Neuville. On 13 July 1679, Francois Vandal was the godfather of Francois, son of Charles Daveau dit Laplante, and of Marguerite d'Aubigny."

At the end of the year 1697, Francois Vandal died at 46 years old per the registry of Neuville funerals. He was buried on 6 December in the presence of his father-in-law Gilles Pinel, his brother-in-law Guillaume Pinel, and his friend Nicolas Sevestre.

"Francois Vandal fell in love with Marie-Madeleine Pinel, daughter of Gilles and of Anne Ledet, third child of a family of nine. She was born about 1662, probably at Sillery. Her grandfather Nicolas Pinel, a Norman, died of gunshot wounds in September 1655, after ten years of living in New France. The father of the bride had been baptized at La Rochelle on 28 February 1635."

"The missionary Germain Morin joined François and Marie-Madeleine in bonds of matrimony at Neuville, on Tuesday, 19 March 1680, the feast day of Saint Joseph. Two particular witnesses left their names associated with Vandal history: Nicolas Sylvestre dit Champagne, and Jean Prou, husband of Catherine Pinel."

In 1653, the area was granted as a seignory by Jean de Lauson to Jean Bourdon de Saint-Jean (ca. 1601-1668) for his son Jean-François Bourdon de Dombourg (1647-1690), who was an engineer, surveyor, cartographer, and Attorney General to the sovereign. In 1680, the Dombourg Seignory was acquired by Nicolas Dupont de Neuville (1632-1716), whereafter the seignory was known as Neuville

The place was also called Pointe-aux-Trembles, in reference to the point on which the church was built, which once was covered with aspen and birch.

François Vandal, baptisé en 1651, fils d'Étienne Vandal et de Julienne Grosleau, de Tournay, au diocèse d'Angers, est le premier ancêtre au Canada et le fondateur de la famille. Il vint de Belgique - la Belgique faisait alors partie de la France - à Québec où il épousa, le 19 mars 1680 Madeleine Pinel, fille de Gilles Pinel et d'Anne Leodet, de la Pointe-aux-Trembles à Québec. Au journal des jésuites on lit ce qui suit: Nicolas Pinel, grand-père de Madeleine mourut à l'hôpital d'une blessure d'arquebuse le 27 avril 1651, sur les sept heures du soir. Nicolas Pinel et son fils Gilles, père de Madeleine, furent attaqués dans leur désert par deux Iroquois qui pensèrent les prendre vifs. Boisverdun tira dessus, sans les blesser; maître Nicolas et son fils se précipitèrent de peur aval (au bas) la montagne pour se sauver. Ces Iroquois, ayant été se joindre à d'autres, vers la maison de Nopce, ils y tirèrent un coup d'arquebuse dans la porte de la maison. La nuit les chiens ne firent qu'aboyer à la Côte Ste-Geneviève.

François Vandal mourut le 6 décembre 1697 et son épouse le 5 mai 1715. Tous deux furent inhumés à Québec.
