I have seen a marriage date for Mary Paul & Thomas Hanson of 16 August 1637 in Yorkshire, England. If someone with access to records in England would like to follow up in searching for a source, I have seen 2 specific locations mentioned ... Pannal or Calverly both in Yorkshire, England. Also have seen a specific birth for Thomas Hanson of 23 Oct 1622 in Ipswich, Essex, England.

So it sounds like the 1637 deposition was by a Thomas Harrison, not Hanson...and so is 1657 in Dover his earliest record in New England?

What is the consensus for M Cole's question above?

If 1657 is the earliest record in New England, she should be removed from PGM.

And what about her husband, Hanson-14?

I've revamped the profile for Hanson-14 and plan to follow-up with this profile. The only source I found placing him in the colonies by 1640 was the following:

Stearns, Ezra S., editor. Genealogical and Family History of the State of New Hampshire. New York & Chicago: The Lewis Publishing Co., 1908. Vol. IV, p. 1821. Available at HathiTrust.org. [1]

This source didn't mention what sort of record proved he was in NH in 1639.

Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700 (with sources) [2] estimated his marriage in Dover by 1641. This date may be based on an estimated date of birth for their first child Tobias, who was taxed during 1662 - 1672.

Ah, Roland Baker (author of the linked discussion). I do miss him.

I just reviewed what I can find on AmericanAncestors.org about Daniel Paul. Very little, but I found some. There is no evidence of daughter Mary or son Richard. I suggest we detach them both.

me too, Jillaine. I miss Roland Baker, he was very influential/helpful in my early WikiTree days.
I would agree with Bill and Jillaine that we should remove the parents and change the last name at birth to Unknown. Several of the profiles of the children are suspect as well. According to GDMNH Thomas Hanson's will lists six children. The additional children in this profile are completely unsourced.

-- Benjamin [Hanson-135]. Supposedly died 28 Jun 1689 -- the same day that his supposed mother was killed by the Indians. Assuming that such a death record exists it seems more probable that he was a grandson rather than a son. Thomas and Mary's son Tobias' house was attacked on that date. Mary was killed and Tobias taken captive. Tobias had a son Benjamin. However a later Benjamin Hanson is clearly seen in later records. Did Tobias name a second son Benjamin after a son killed in the raid?

-- Joseph [Hanson-145]. Supposedly died 27[sic] Jun 1689. Same comment as Benjamin. See Tobias' son Joseph.

-- Agnes [Hanson-13]. Supposedly married John Libby (Jr). I see no evidence that John Libby's wife Agnes was a Hanson. The date of John and Agnes' marriage is unknown but their oldest child seems to have been born around 1669. If they married a few years earlier, Agnes' absence from Thomas Hanson's 1666 will might be explained if she had recently received a marriage settlement.

-- Timothy [Hanson-143] and Timothy [Hanson-1110]. The existence of two Timothys one born in 1647 and the other in 1651 seems unlikely. Unless there is evidence of two children with this name we should consider merging them.

-- Unknown [Hanson-429] and Unknown [Hanson-428]. Where did these come from? Enough said.

Thank you, Clark.

Thoughts from others in this thread or PMs on the detachment of these children?

Hi Clark, thanks for these comments! Here are my thoughts based on some literature I read today. See Thomas Hanson for citations of Nicely and Chaplin.

1) Timothy [Hanson-143] and Timothy [Hanson-1110]: Regarding 1647 and 1651 birth dates for son Timothy, I wouldn't be surprised if these were different estimations from different sources for the same person. From what I've seen, there are no definitive records proving exact birth dates for any of Thomas and Mary's children.

2) Benjamin [Hanson-135]: Nicely and Chaplin report a grandson Benjamin who was the son of Tobias and Elizabeth Boyce. This Benjamin was b. abt. 1671 and d. 1751. I wonder if the date of death from Hanson-135 (1689) is an error? It's unsourced.

3) Joseph [Hanson-145]: This looks like a similar issue as Benjamin, a grandchild with the same parents. Nicely and Chaplin report him m. before 1671 and d. before 25 Jul 1749. Again his 27 Jun 1689 death is unsourced and looks like an error to me.

4) Agnes [Hanson-13]: Given that both daughters in the will are un-named and ID of a daughter named Mary is uncertain in multiple sources, I'd leave Agnes as-is until more is learned. I like your suggestion that a marriage settlement may complicate interpretation of Thomas' will. I haven't found a show-stopper for Agnes yet.

5) Unknowns [Hanson-429] and [Hanson-428]: I would guess these were created as counterparts of the two unnamed daughters from Thomas' will. There isn't any unique information in those profiles. Those could be merged with any of the named daughters.

It sounds like we're on the same page here. I would still like to check Coleman to see if she has anything to say.

Do you know where the suggestion that Agnes wife of John Libby, Jr was a Hanson came from? Charles Thornton Libby in Libby Family of America calls her Agnes (_____). Also that couple did not name a son Thomas or any of the other Hanson names.
