I am unfamiliar with the Melungeon ethnicity. The Almands are a difficult family to research because there are so many of them. One of the Almand descendants has uncovered evidence that the original surname was not even Almand. That the Almand name was adopted after arriving in the US. If they, or the Turner line are indeed Melungeon, It is news to me. As best I can tell, they came to Georgia, where I live, through Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. I am unaware of any of my ancestors that originated or lived in Appalachia. Although, my great x2 grandfather, Jesse M Turner and his wife Priscilla are brick walls for me, and I have not identified their ancestors or dates and places of birth. I believe that Jesse was born in N Carolina and his wife Priscilla was born in South Carolina, based on census data, but I do not know where or exactly when. I also cannot positively identify all of their children. They had one son, Alfred Lafayette Turner 1838-1919, who moved to the Roston, Arkansas area. I think that I have a lot of relatives, whom I do not know, in and around the Nevada County, Arkansas area. In fact, Alfred was married to another Almand, Martha Ann Almand (1843-1905). There were and still are a ton of Almands in Fulton and Rockdale Counties. There is an Almand Rd in Conyers that runs by the original Georgia Almand homestead. I see that you have an Ancestry tree. My family tree, Turner Rodgers, Cooper Ingram, including many of the Almands, is on Ancestry.com as well. Good luck in your genealogy search. Jim Turner [email address removed]
