Biography

Freelove was a Friend (Quaker)

Freelove was born on 14 Feb 1761 in New York Colony. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Townsend^[1] She appears to not be the daughter of Benjamin Townsend, son of Daniel and Freelove Townsend, born 1714 in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York as he had died 5 May 1755 in Scarsdale, Westchester Co., New York.^[2]

She married James Carpenter on 5 Sep 1779. He was disowned by the Purchase monthly meeting for marrying out of society, but later acknowledged.^[3][4] Freelove and their children Elizabeth, James, Enoch and Ezra we all later received on request.^[5][6][7]

She died on 8d 1m 1837 [8 Jan 1837], age 75y 8m, in Purchase, Westchester, New York.^[1] She was buried in Purchase Friends Meeting Cemetery.^[8]
