THIS Dorothy Tooke (See Tooke-18) who married Joseph Matthew Commander born about 1635 was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Barnes) Tooke. (Also had 7 additional children, all named in Dorothy Tooke (Tooke-299) Harvey's will, who was his SISTER and died 14 Nov 1682)
Thomas is the son of James Tooke: James born 1600 was the first immigrant from England on the Tooke family tree. He is listed as an original settler of Jamestown, arriving on the George (ship) in 1621 at the age of 21. He married Mary Davis about 1624 and and had only 3 recorded children. There is no confirmed records of James Tooke prior to his arrival in Jamestown. The James Tooke who was linked to the Tookes of Hertfordshire died in 1637 in England. This James is NOT the son of James Tooke and Dorothy Gray.

Also, is highly unlikely that her mother was Susannah Mary Barham based on James Tooke's will that was probated on 1662 that does not mention a wife living. He mentions only his three children, William, Thomas, and Dorothy who married Gov. John Harvey of North Carolina.
Thomas Tooke, son of James Tooke of Virginia, had a daughter named Dorothy who married Joseph Commander (his will is dated 1698, NC). Thomas Tooke's children are all listed in his sister's Dorothy Harvey's will which Thomas was the executor for.
