Biography

Sarah Tompson (aka Thompson) was born in Simsbury, Connecticut, on May 11, 1688, the daughter of Edward Thompson and Sarah Webster. Her father was at that time a minister in Simsbury.[1][2]

She married Percival Clark in Newbury, Massachusetts, on March 26, 1712-13 (published at Newbury February 28).[3][4]

After their marriage, and the baptism of a possible son in 1726 (See Children), no further records concerning the couple have been found in the Vital Records of Newbury. The History of Newbury, Mass., 1635-1902 includes a "Percival Clark" on a 1739 list of "Soldiers in the expedition to Canada Anno 1690 under the Command of Cap't John March, Cap't Stephen Greenleaf and Cap't Philip Nelson" granted land in a township on the westerly side of Merrimack river, "and northerly of and adjoyning to Contoocook." This township now includes within its limits Bakerstown, Stevenstown, and Salisbury, New Hampshire.[5][6] Note: Given that Percival would have been 2 years old in 1690, he could not have been one of the soldiers on the Canada expedition, so either there was another older Percival Clark in Newbury, or our Percival was included for some other reason.

Children (Clark)

Children of Percival and Sarah (Tompson) Clark. Note: Only one possible child, Edward Clark, is listed in Vital Records of Newbury, however the baptism date is 13 years after their marriage so it is not certain that the child belongs to this couple. There are no Newbury death records for either Percival or Sarah.

  1. Edward Clark, baptized October 26, 1726.[7]

Thompson-15321 and Tompson-415 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, spelling of LNAB used by this family is "Tompson", known husband "Clark."
