One of my brick walls is finding the parents of Joseph St. Jean, born c. 1857 in Quebec. According to anecdotal family information, he and his father were bakers by profession, and his mother was a First Nations woman. They were not known to have been married.

Another brick wall is finding any of my maternal grandmother's ancestors besides her parents, Louis Fisher (Fischer) and Sophie Wittmaier. We were told Sophie died when my grandmother was only about 2 years old, after which Louis remarried, and his new wife was apparently a very distant stepmother. Her name I do not have. They were Roman Catholic, and the map of my DNA hot spots for Germany lines up well with areas where Catholics are still numerous.
