Biography

Louisa was born in 1919. She was the daughter of Littleton Tazewell and Cordelia DeJarnette. She passed away in 2008.

Louisa W. Tazewell CHARLOTTESVILLE - Louisa Walke Tazewell died after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer Oct. 23, 2008, in Charlottesville. A native of Norfolk, she was born Aug. 16, 1919, to Cordelia Burke deJarnette and Littleton Waller Tazewell. Descended from an old Norfolk family, she was the great-granddaughter of Dr. George Dodd Armstrong, the minister of First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, for more than 40 years and one of the heroes of the Norfolk yellow fever epidemic of 1855. She was also the great-great-granddaughter of Littleton Waller Tazewell, former governor of Virginia. Louisa married Edwin Louis Kyte, a naval officer, whose career took them to far away places including Guam. They had four children. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, and later Meadows Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville. After retiring from more than 25 years of service as a civil servant at the Naval Operations Base in Norfolk, she moved to Charlottesville to be with her twin daughters. Those who knew Louisa regarded her as a gracious lady with a generous heart and a beautiful, infectious smile. She was an inspiration to many for her ability to express love and courage, especially during her battle with cancer at Our Lady of Peace where she was beloved. Louisa is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Littleton Waller Tazewell and Shalom Barron Tazewell of Talcott, W.Va.; her daughters and son-in-law, Louise Kyte Greer and Dr. Kenneth Edward Greer and Cordelia Kyte Gary, all of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Kenneth Edward Greer Jr., Leigh Tazewell Greer and Fitzhugh Bradford Gary; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Cordelia Tazewell Baldwin and William Barton "Sox" Baldwin of Norfolk and Dorothy Tazewell Hume and Joseph Stuart Hume of Virginia Beach. Louisa's eldest son, Edwin Louis Kyte Jr. formerly of Satellite Beach, Fla., preceded her in death, as did her older sister and brother-in-law, Grace Tazewell Flowers and Dr. Paul Flowers formerly of Dothan, Ala.
