Communication Preferences:
I am interested in communicating with
anyone who shares the same ancestors.
My family tree is private but I want to collaborate on deep ancestors or historical figures.
At WikiTree, we use our own names on our profiles or use specific words that work with our privacy system. If you want to "anonymize" your name, you can use Anonymous or an initial for either your first or last name, but not both, please. If your "alias" is truly a nickname, you can put that in the Preferred Name field.
Try to put as much of your real name as you feel comfortable making public. Do not use a fake name under any circumstances. See our help page on Name Displays. We are a friendly community here.
Wiki Genealogists who sign the Honor Code cannot use the Unlisted Privacy Level.
WikiTree is all about collaboration. Other WikiTree members can't collaborate with you if they can't identify you with a member name.
For more information on our Privacy Levels, click the Privacy tab on your profile or take a look at our Privacy help page.
Thanks for visiting WikiTree and be sure to ask for help if you need it!
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
It would be best if you use your surname or, at least, your first name on your profile. This will help when you're communicating with other WikiTree genealogists. We all share family here, so it's good to know who we're talking to.
You can find more information about how we use names on our Name Fields help page. We strongly discourage the use of Anonymous or initials for both your first and last names.
If you are concerned about Privacy, click the Privacy tab on your profile to view the different settings.
An additional level of anonymity can be achieved by not connecting any of your relatives to your profile.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
