The notation that Abigail was born in Salem is probably incorrect if her birthdate is right.
Her father, John Swezey sold his home in Salem to his mother-in-law, Dorothy King in 1652 (Hoff, Henry; Genealogies of Long Island Families, vol. 1, p. 494). He was one of the original purchasers at Brookhaven/Setauket in 1655, but didn't settle there. (History of Suffolk County, NY, pub Munsell & Co., 1882) and purchased home in Southold Feb 1, 1658 (Whitaker's Southold).
Sorry the references are not more complete. They come from notes I made 30 years ago.
Joyce, is it possible to post these sources to her father's profile so it is more complete? The sale to Dorothy King is there, but not the others you mention.
I also noticed Abigail's date and place of birth don't jive.
And . . . do you mind if I delete some of the sources considered unreliable and also the GEDcom "junk" from a few of the Swazey profiles that I would like to work on (that you are PM for) ? Thanks.
Joyce, thanks very much. I put your new info and references into the main text. Added the Dorothy King reference to what was already there. Still a lot to sort out for this story!
Yes, they are the same person, but the date confusion isn't due to Quaker dating. The months are too far apart Before 1752, First Month was March, not January January would be Eleventh Month. And May would have been Third Month, so it's all pretty murky. (Not to mention the 12 days that were removed from the calendar, six in the Spring and six in the Fall, when the calendar was changed from Julian to Gregorian, so the 23rd is probably not accurate either).
