Thanks Ian. The Cornwall records that I saw had Honor's name Morris, but in Australia it was listed as Morrow. Do you have any information on Honor? We have a William Laity Morris bapt 6 Dec 1807 Madron, Penzance who we are trying to connect to the Laity family.

Unable to find anything on Vic, NSW or Qld BDMs.

Only this: 6Dec1848 -MASTERS AND SERVANTS ACT.-Yesterday one case under this Act came before the bench. William Hutchinson v. Thomas Laity. Mr. Ward appeared for the plaintiff". Hutchinson deposed that on the 26th October he was verbally hired by Mr. Laity as a weekly servant, at 15s. per week, with board and lodging ; no witness was present ; he remained five weeks in his service, but only got 2s. in that time, and Mr. Laity now owed him £3 13s., which he refused to pay, and also refused to give up a box of clothes he left at his place. In cross-examination Hutchinson adhered to this evidence. In defence Laity said that he never hired Hutchinson, but only gave him permission to live at his place till he had got employment, Hutchinson promising to repay him when he could. He called his mother, Honora Laity, who deposed that her son brought Hutchinson to her place as a young man out of employment, and Hutchinson told her he was going the next day to look for it ; he did not do so, however, but as he proved a civil and handy young man she made no objection to his remaining and making himself useful ; he was never hired by her ; she went to Sydney lately, and was shocked on her return to find that Hutchinson had ungratefully left the house while her son was absent, leaving the house open to the world ; the box was kept back till they saw whether all was right. The bench dismissed the case, the defendant engaging to return Hutehinson's box.[1]

As a Sutton and genealogist, you must know that Suttons and the name Dudley were linked back in 15th century England. John Sutton was the First Baron Dudley. At any rate we appreciate your managing this family name. Bill Dudley
