Elvy was never married, there is no evidence of who the father of her children was. There should be a match to my Y-DNA with documentation to add a father to Elvy's children
When Elva Anne Strickland was born on 26 June 1829, in Abbeville, Henry, Alabama, United States, her father, Elias Strickland, was 25 and her mother, Synthia Ann Starling, was 19. She had at least 2 sons, John Albert and Jacob. She lived in Election Precinct 7 Newville, Henry, Alabama, United States in 1870 and Shorterville, Henry, Alabama, United States in 1880. She died before Jum 1900, in Dale, Alabama, United States, at the age of 71.
Elvey was unmarried, Ben Strickland passed these comments to me from his side of the family.[1]
I know through oral family history that Elvie Ann had children but was unmarried. It may be that family members knew the father of her children but no information regarding the father has been passed down
Excerpt from "Fortune or Fantasy"
Inez Strickland Palmer captured a lot of information from the Stricklands vs Humble Oil (now Exxon) trial. Some of it talks about Elvy, more in a genealogical sense. I will post some related excepts from this book by Inez, there are many families involved, including the Starlings, Pellams, Heltons and others.
Emma Strickland's testimony (Emma was married to John Albert, he was dead by the time of the trial, and was Elvy's oldest son) - "Albert's mother was Elvey, her mother and father were Elias and Cynthia Strickland. Elvey lived with Emma Strickland until she died. So did Nancy, she married Tom Bell. Nancy died in Oklahoma. She went there with Albert and Em to Paul's Valley, Okla. They lived two years in Oklahoma. Went back to Alabama with Tom Bell. He lost his wife and boy. He left and came back to Alabama too. Thirty-four years ago. Elvey died before Nancy."
The trial was around 1943, Nancy died about 1910.
Mrs Gessedanner's testimony (daughter of Henry Strickland) "Elvie born Jun 26, 1829".
I have talked with #46 via email and on the phone. He sent me some pictures of George Washington Strickland and Sally Sapp. His Great Grandfather John Chambers Strickland was Elvey's younger brother. The DNA match is to Mathew Strickland through Philip Strickland. I also took the DNA as a later part of the study, not in the links below, since Elvey was unmarried, and female my DNA did not match Mathew Strickland. I've later taken a Autosomal DNA test.
It is a good thing my YDNA test didn't match since we don't want the father of Albert and Jacob to be a Strickland.[3][4]
I removed the link to the stricklanddna.org site, it's apparently been hacked. Since the material is copyrighted I can't put up a PDF version of the original study.
Indian or African Blood
There has been a family rumor that John Alberts's father was Indian, or an escaped slave that became a Miccosukee Indian. None of which can be proven. In my Autosomal DNA test I show 1.4% Sub-Sharan African and on .2% Indigenous American. The 1.4% would go back to my 4th or 5th great grandparent. I would expect a higher percentage in the 5-10% if the rumors were true, since Elvy is my 2nd Great Grandmother. I also checked with the son of Participant #46 and he provided back this information I had 1.1% sub-Saharan African and 0.8% western Asian and North African. Which shows the African blood goes back further than the person who fathered Elvy's children was.

1830 Census
(1830) Henry, Alabama, United States[5] In this census they only named the head of household, however a good guess can be made of the residences.
Elias is the only confirmed name, the other names are based on birth year and best guess matching to the age group.

1860 Census
In the 1860 census take on August 2nd in the Franklin Beat 7, Henry, Alabama, United States Evian 31 born about 1829 in Alabama was living with her mother Cynthia age 50 widowed and her siblings Tynsay An 19, William 18, Henry B 14, Nancy E 8, James 6.[6]
Living next to them was Elvy's younger brother John Chambers and is wife Susanna.
Is James another child of Cynthia's? Elias didn't die until 1858, so it's possible, Cynthia would have been 44. Or is he the son of one of her children?
Considering John Albert was born 6 days after the census was taken, Elvy must have been very pregnant at that point.

Who is Thomas? Is he one of Sinthy's grandchildren?
Both John and William, Elvy's younger brothers were living nearby.

1880 Census
In the 1880 census taken on June 22nd in Shorterville, Henry Alabama, United States Elvy age 42 born about 1838 in Alabama was living with her two sons Albert 15 and Jacob 13.[8]
They had Thomas Bell married to Nancy, who was Elvy's youngest sister living on one side of them.
Mary Bell, Thomas's mother and her youngest son Edmond were living on the other side.
Add the ages are off by about 5-10 years in this census. Not sure why. Elvy should have been closer to 50, Albert closer to 20 and Jacob closer to 20.

Research Notes
Whoever was the husband/lover of Elvy, their Y-DNA should match mine.
Missing from the 1840, 1850 and potentially the 1855 census
I have been unable to locate Elias (Elvy's father in the 1840 census)
I have been unable to locate Elvy in the 1850 census, she would have been 21.
I was able to fill all the slots in the 1855 census without needing another >21 female, she would have been 36.
She still was single in the 1860 census; she would have been 41 at the time.
The 1890 census being burned really hurt. It looks like Elvey died before the 1900 census was taken. Though I can't find her younger sister |Nancy Elender Strickland and husband |Thomas J Bell burial locations either, they lived next door to Elvey and her sons in the 1880 census.
I also can't find much on Jacob Strickland either.
It would be useful to find out when Elvy died and where. Emma's testimony says Elvy was living with Emma and John Albert when she died.
Albert and Emma married in 1895, so Elvy would have still been alive.
I'm unable to find Elvy in the Gilley's, Dale, Alabama, United States 1900 census taken on 6 June. If she had been living with Emma and Albert then she should have still been there. They apparently hadn't left yet to Oklahoma to visit Albert's aunt Nancy and uncle Tom.
At this point it's most likely she died in Dale Alabama between when Albert and Emma were married and the 1900 census. My guess is she would be buried in an unmarked grave.
