About the Project

The Kurdyla Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Kurdyla name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Kurdyla name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Kurdyla's), by time period (18th Century Kurdyla's), or by topic (Kurdyla DNA, Kurdyla Occupations, Kurdyla Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Goals

  1. Create KURDYLA profiles on wikitree
  2. Add the Kurdyla ONS sticker and/or the category
  3. Research name origins. What does it mean? What type of surname? Any other variations?
  4. Create subcategories to group Kurdylas from each location identified
  5. more to come...

Current Focus

  • My current plan/idea is to research and create profiles for Kurdyla folks who can be found in census records in New Jersey. This is where my family lived, and based on my personal research and discussion with some DNA matches, it seems there are plenty of Kurdyla who lived in New Jersey. In particular, three areas have come up a lot; Carteret, Elizabeth City, and Newark. I've been building out small trees on Ancestry of Kurdyla I find, in hopes to find some records that might connect them to me. Vernon-2152 13:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi Maggie, I saw your other post, so similar response... about my getting familiar with Geneteka. Thanks for these links. I'll have to check them out. I'm hoping my cousin (the one I mentioned in other reply) will be able to dig more next trip he makes. For the name study, I'm planning to first work through all the Kurdylas in the USA. I think even more specifically, first with my family, and then anyone else in New Jersey (since a lot seem to have lived in NJ: Carteret, Elizabeth City, and Newark I believe).
I will help you with the US Kurdyla Name study. Working with New Jersey Poles is difficult because of, well, New Jersey! They are very slow opening up their records.

Fantastic! I welcome any and all help. :) I just started this study page, so when I find some time, I'll try to spruce it up.
