He studied at Brasenose College, Oxford.

He passed away in 1877. Probate (Principal Registry 19 Apr 1877): formerly of Glebe House, Forty Hill, Enfield, late of Hammersmith, both in Middlesex, proved by John Hall Smyth of Frimhurst, Surrey, Maj.-Gen., and Rev. Hugh Blagg Smyth of Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, clerk, the brothers.
