Marion Smith was born on the Isle of Arran in 1955. [1] She was the daughter of Robert Anderson Smith and Mary (Lammie) Smith and was raised with her sister and two brothers at Ashlar Farm, Machrie, Isle of Arran.
Marion’s primary schooling occurred in Shiskine Primary School, where her grandfather was headmaster many years before, and she spent four years at Arran High School. A further year was spent at Rothesay Academy, Isle of Bute before she entered Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow, graduating with a Diploma in Education in 1975. Marion worked as a primary teacher at Carntyne Primary School in Glasgow, Scotland for nine years before moving overseas to the Middle East. She held positions in Fahaheel English School in Kuwait for one year in 1984, then Ibn Khuldoon International School in Bahrain for four years, and finally in several schools in Sydney, Australia as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher from 1989 till retirement in 2019. Whilst working in Sydney, Marion undertook further education and graduated from University of Technology, Sydney with a Diploma in TESOL in 1995 and Bachelor of Education from Sydney University in 1997.
After marrying on the Isle of Arran in 1989, [2] Marion emigrated to Sydney, Australia with her husband, Michael Joseph Corrigan. Marion and Michael divorced in 1999. They had no children.
Marion met Robert Gailey in 2000 but never married despite spending many years together till Rob’s death in 2020.
