Happy was born before 1825 and was enslaved by Mary (Webb) Smith in Granville County, North Carolina, at the Abram's Plains plantation.
When Mary's will was written on 10 January 1825, Happy was given to her son Alexander Smith. In the February 1828 estate inventory, Happy was listed as "died since will was made."
