Peggy Smith is a part of US Black heritage.
Peggy was born about 1816 and was enslaved by Mary (Webb) Smith in Granville County, North Carolina, at the Abram's Plains plantation.
When Mary's will was probated in February 1828, Peggy was given to her son James Webb Smith. In the estate inventory, Peggy was listed with a "supposed age" of 12 years old.
