Sam Smith is a part of US Black heritage.

Sam was born about 1802 and was enslaved by Mary (Webb) Smith in Granville County, North Carolina, at the Abram's Plains plantation.

When Mary's will was probated in February 1828, Sam was given to her daughter Anne Smith. In the estate inventory, Sam was listed with a "supposed age" of 26 years old.
