Biography

The first eighteen months of my life were spent in Napier at 71 Georges Drive (now a Carpark for the nearby Mormon Church). The family moved to Hamilton in 1943 when my father was transferred by the Public Trust. My schooling was at Hamilton East Primary, and Hamilton Boys High School. In my Fourth Form year my Father died, and affected by grief my Fifth Form year was a disaster.

On 14 January 1958 i started work as a Telephone Operator in the Hamilton Toll Room, and transferred approx 18 months later to the Telephone Services Branch in the Chief Post Office Building (now Sky City Casino). I left the Post Office in 1974, a move i have never regretted.

When i was 18 y/o the Parish Assistant at St Aidans Church where i attended, took me aside and suggested that i became a useful member of the Church, i can still hear the hysterical laughter of my Mother when i told her i thought i should help in the Sunday School - Long story short i became an Assitant Cub Leader of the Cub Pack in the Scout Group run by the Church.

I completed a total of 30 years Warranted Leadership in the Scout Association holding many varied positions., obtaining the Cub Wood Badge Qualification approx 1968.Awarded the Medal of Merit in 1970, and the Bar to the Medal of Merit 1980.My biggest achievement was as Group Leader Cambridge, where, with the help of the Chairman, we managed to get the Group located from a dangerous position on Duke St hill to a purpose built new Scout Hall on a property in Mac Lean St Cambridge,. During the construction, one of Cambridges random persons came in and said that "Iam pleased that you are putting in a Mayonnaise Floor". The builders face was priceless. I have always referred to Mezzanine FLoors as Mayonaise Floors ever since.

After resigning from the Post Office in 1974 up in Auckland, i joined the AMP Society, as an Insurance Agent, which i did for 5 years. At one stage i held the position of third place in the Australasian Sales Force, which comprised over 3000 salesperson..

In 1979 we bought a 7 day Grocery Business which we operated until the lease ran out in 1983.Had a couple of small jobs until 1985 when i was offerred the Site Security position at the Waikato Co-op Dairy Co, Hautapu, I was there till 1995, then returned to Hamilton

My former Grocery skills were called on again, when i was hired by Pak N Save Mill Street where i worked for 15 years. During this time i had four health issues - about 1997 i popped my Archillies tendon, around 2007 i had a infected Wisdom tooth which damaged a valve in my heart,In January 2010 i had a total hip replacement Operations, and on 12 February 2012 I had a Pacemaker fitted because my Heart was only doing 30 beats/ Minute and missing some. So i made the decision then to quit the workforce, and enjoy my retirement

Hi Bryan!

Thanks for joining the Monthly Connectors Challenge.

Unlike the Connect-A-Thon, scoring for the Connectors Challenge is based on branches connected to the tree, not individual profiles. So, whether you connect a branch with two profiles or ninety-two profiles, it still counts as one connection.

All connections for the Monthly Connectors Challenge have to use pre-existing profiles.

Profiles created during the existing month and connected do not count.

Have fun connecting!

Hi Bryan, I see you marked 167 profiles on the challenge tracker for the US Black Heritage Project challenge. That challenge is for creating brand new African American profiles. It looks like you mean to choose the sourcing challenge? Please double check which challenge you are marking so you can get credit for the challenge you are participating in. Thanks, Emma~~USBH
Hi Bryon, the February Challenge had 33 members who connected 415 soldiers, with a combined total of 2,594 profiles created. Thank you joining the February Challenge and making it such a success.

No jury needed. The NZ Mudgways all descended from Richard and Ann who arrived at Petone in 1841 on the Catherine Stewart Forbes. Their previous life was in Kent. I was fortunate enough to see the records of Richard and Ann's marriage in Lenham when I was there last June. Not many churches were allowed to keep their records (most went to Somerset House) but St Mary's has a special chest that permitted them to retain theirs. I have lots of info going back to them if you'd like to see it. John Mudgway in Masterton is a fellow genealogist and also has lots of data. Feel free to check out my tree. Cheers, Chris 🙂

Excellent! Hope you are well and enjoying your research.

I have been doing challenges for the last two months, and am very ready to get back to my own research.

Hello!

I noticed that you're working on pre-1700-era profiles. This is just a reminder that certifying to work on these types of profiles means that you agree to add valid sources as outlined in the Pre-1700 Certification Quiz.

If you need help with this, our G2G Forum is a great place to start. You can get there by clicking the link on the Help menu.

Thanks!

Hi Bryan

User-contributed family trees aren't considered reliable sources. Please look for original sources. You'll find further information here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Reliable_Sources_for_Pre-1700_Profiles.

Thank you.

Hi Bryan, I noticed you marked 48 profiles for the USBH Connecting Challenge in April. This is a challenge to create USA profiles for Black heritage. When you use the challenge tracker, please make sure to double check which challenge you are marking so you can get credit for the challenge you are participating in. Thanks, Emma~~USBH
Emma , sorry about that - it is not that clear, in one haste to compete, i got confused , i am no spring chicken and did not grow up being Computer Literate- i used to play outdoors usually unseen by my Parents until Tea Time.

Have a Great Day.

Hi, Bryan

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi, Bryan

I understand completely; I was able to get a lot of information back several generations and enjoyed telling my dad every new discovery. I miss that now that he passed a few weeks before his 90th birthday in October 2021.

Best wishes to you for writing the stories and finding the history; again, congratulations on this first step to more discoveries.

Hi Bryan,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
