Biography

An unnamed daughter Shurtliff of Daniel K Shurtliff (farmer, age 36) and Harriet F. Shurtliff (age 32), (also spelled Shirtliff/Shirtleff/Shurtleff) was born 4 September 1861 in Ashford, Connecticut.^[1][2] However, her death certificate says she was 79 y, 6 m, 5 d, which calculates to 5 September 1860.^[3] Later records call her Calista/Calasta/Clisty.

Calasta is listed, age 8, in the 1870 US Census in Ashford, living with Daniel, age 45; Harriet, age 40; Elizabeth, age 19; Cordelia E, age 6; and LuluBell, age 1. It states that all the children and Daniel were born in Connecticut. Elizabeth was born in Rhode Island.^[4]

Calista Shurtliffe, age 21, born in Ashford and residing in West Ashford, married Jesse S Wilson, age 23, born in Moosup, Connecticut, resident of Willimantic, Connecticut, on 11 Feb 1880, in Stafford, Connecticut.^[5] and thereafter is listed in the census data with his family.

Clisty ran a boarding house according to her granddaughter Gladys (Wilson) Bennett.

Calista E (Shurtliff) Wilson died 10 March 1940, in Worcester, Massachusetts.^[3]

"Mrs. Calista E. Wilson _ Auburn, March 11. --Funeral services for Mrs. Calista E. Wilson, widow of Jerry S. Wilson, of 58 Stone street, who died last night at the home of her son Dubrelle Wilson, 6 Hollis street, will be at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Sessions Home Chapel, Worcester. Rev. Joseph O. Todd of Pilgrim Congregational Church, Worcester, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. ... Also surviving are another son, Lewellyn Wilson of Warrenville, Conn.; two daughters, Mrs. Carried E. Harrington of Auburn and Mrs. Harriet W. West of Worcester; 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. ^[6]
