William Searcy was born in 1754.
1803 - William Onstott purchased 97 acres of land on the North side of Deep River in Randolph County NC from William Searcy for $125.00. (Book 8 pg 365 ) (William Searcy was born 27 May 1754. His daughter, Elizabeth Searcy, b. 5 Feb 1784 in N C and George Onstott's son William, b. 18 Jul 1774, married abt. 1801.)
Richard Hargrove, Sons John & Richard, Negroes Cate, Jenny, Sue & Jemey, 3-4-7 ..And both sons were in the 1754 Militia. I've heard an interesting theory about some of the Hargroves, myself, and there is record of illegitimate children by the younger Richard: .. Sept.5, 1750- Elizabeth Searcy, charged Richard Hargrove with having begotten by her a bastard child. He is ordered to pay the Church warders of St. John’s Parish 4 pounds proc. For maintainance of the child 1 year next ensuing. .. Sept. 5, 1754 – William, base born child of Elizabeth Searcy, bound to Reuben Searcy, to learn Shoemaker’s trade. Will be 5 yrs old on April 30, 1754. ..
The son became known as William Hargrove Searcy JR and was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. His mother, Elizabeth Searcy, is believed to be a sister of Reuben Searcy, who was also a sheriff and a county clerk. In at least a couple of documents, Elizabeth Searcy acted as county clerk in signing the marriage bonds of free people of color during the years that her brother was the clerk. It was an unusual thing to do, and I have found no record to indicate why she would have had that authority or even why she would do that in the first place. Elizabeth never married, and some have speculated about there being a connection to free people of color in the Hargrove or Searcy family. In one particular marriage bond that she signed, by the way, for Benjamin Richardson & Mary Bass in 1783, the bondsman was Philamon Pettiford, a known FCP..
