Henry Seamons was born 5 May 1809, in Rumburgh, Suffolk, England. His mother was Hannah Seamons and his father was William Stockdale. His parents were not married and he retained his mother's maiden name even after her marriage to Samuel Jackson in January 1812.
As a young man, he worked as a laborer for local landowners. In about 1840, he met with an accident that affected him for years. He was helping to bind a load of barley when a rope broke and he fell, striking his head. He was so severely hurt that he was not really well for years.[1]
On 9 September 1832, Henry married Mary King in St. Michaels, South Elham, Suffolk, England. Together they had 8 children.
Along with many members of his family, Henry was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) in Rumburgh, Suffolk, England on 23 June 1852. In approximate 1853-1854, his wife, Mary, received a small amount of money from the will of a relative who had died, and the family prepared to go to America and join the LDS Saints. The family set sail 14 February 1856, on the sailing vessel Caravan and were six weeks making the voyage from Liverpool to New York.[2] They remained in New York to find employment, as they had no money, and eventually went to New Jersey, where their daughter, Jemima, had found employment.
In 1859, the family traveled by steamboat up the Missouri River from St. Louis, Missouri, to Omaha, Nebraska, where the branch of the church was organized and they lived for 15 months. There was a great deal of sickness and many suffered from chills and fever.[1]
On January 14, 1860, Henry took ill andd died at the age of 51.
