The royal ancestry for this Richard was disproven in 1960 by Sir Anthony Wagner, in his book, “English Genealogy." Sir Anthony places Edward (father of Richard) as son of the Richard Scott, clothier, of Glemsford, who died in 1565. See G2G post.
Richard, son of Edward and Sarah, was bpt 9 Sep 1605.[1] That he was the immigrant is proved by various family wills. George, also a son of Edward left a will naming his father Edward (of Glemsford clothier) and his brother Richard in New England.[2][1] Edward of Glemsford, clothier, names his son Richard in New England and Richard's first two children James and John.[1]
Richard Scott, migrated in 1634, settled in Boston, then moved to Providence in 1638. [3]
Richard Scott a shoomaker became a member of the First Church of Boston, 28th of the sixt Moneth 1634 (28 Aug 1634)[4]
Children:[3]
Douglas Richardson[6][7] and a 1985 book on the origins of New England families[8] list another son, Richard Scott. Anderson discusses this son in the comments section of his father's biography, adding "We do not find the evidence sufficient to include a son Richard in this family."[9]
Edward Scott, Scott-2073 has previously been shown as a child of Richard. Edward's profile is unsourced, and there appears to be no evidence for the relationship.
