Biography
Johann Adam Schmitt was born around the early 1700s (see research notes) to Johann and Gertrud Schmitt of Saubach. His father passed away when he was a young boy, and his mother died when he was in his early 20s.
[1][2]
He lived in Saubach in 1736, when he married Angelica Leidinger, widow of Michael Spohn of Primsweiler, on May 24th. The couple were wed in Kreuzerhöhung Hüttersdorf, and the witnesses were Johann Adam Leidinger of Primsweiler, Nikolaus Schultheis of Buprich, and Joseph Burg of Lebach.
[3]
The couple made their home in the "Kutchers Haus" in Primswiler, where Johann Adam Schmitt served as Meier and "Kirchenschöffe" (church councilman).
[4]
Johann Adam Schmitt died on April 4th, 1767 and was buried in Hüttersdorf.

Research Notes
Given Name - His marriage and death record lists his name as Johann Adam, but Marxen and Storb (1994) list him as "Johann Hans."
Birthdate - Johann Adam Schmitt was approximately 60 years of age when he died in 1767, suggesting a year of birth around 1706 or 1707. He was likely baptized in Parish of Lebach, whose sacramental records exist back to 1703. Note that Johann Adam's brother, Mathias, was baptized in Lebach in May 1703. Assuming Mathias' baptism occurred near his birth (and that Johann Adam was older than Mathias), then Johann Adam would have been born no later than July 1702.
Birthplace - Johann Adam Schmitt's birthplace is assumed to be Saubach, where he lived in 1735 and where his (presumed) parents died in 1706 and 1726. Saubach (present-day Niedersaubach) was part of the Vierherrschaft Lebach, which governed by Kurtrier, the Herren von Hagen zur Motten, the Dukes of Lorraine and the Fraulautern Abbey until 1787.
