Jean Paul Schexnayder, son of Jean Adam Schexnayder and Marie Agnes Mayer, was born c.1766 in St. John the Baptist Catholic parish on the "German Coast" of the Mississippi River in Louisiana.[1]
Jean Paul married Catherine Marx on January 10, 1792.[2]
Catherine died May 4, 1794,[3][4]
leaving a one month old daughter, named Catherine.[5]
In apparent preparation for remarriage, in April 1795 Paul had an inventory taken of the community property to establish tutorship and inheritance rights of his young daughter. He was named his daughter's tutor.[3]
Paul then married Marie Rome on May 5, 1795.[6]
On August 5th of the same year, Jean-Paul declared in front of witnesses that if he should die before his wife, that one-half of what he owns is to go to his wife alone, the other half to be divided between the wife and their children.[7][8]
They had five children before he became a widower for a second time shortly before she was buried on April 25, 1805.[9]
He married a third time, to Elisabeth Barbe Portier, the daughter of Jean Portier and Marie Anne Keller, on 18 August 1806 in St. James Parish.[10]
He had three children with her before he died at the recorded age of 44 years; he was buried on 18 November 1810 in Convent, Louisiana.[1]
