Joseph Sayers was born in Crawley, Sussex, England.

Joseph Sayers was born in Crawley, Sussex on 12 August 1723, and was baptised in Ifield, Crawley Friends Meeting House, he was the son of Benjamin Sayers and Ann Waller. [1]

He married Susanna Stedman in about 1758.

The birth records of his children describe Joseph as 'a cordwainer, of Crawley, Sussex', and he lived in Ifield later in his life. Joseph was a Quaker minister for over 20 years and spoke at the branch meeting in Brighton when he was 50 years old.

Joseph died in Ifield on 21 February 1797, he was 73 years old, and was described in the register as 'a cordwainer of Ifield'. He was buried in the Quaker burial ground in Ifield on 26 February [2] [3]
