Biography

Stefano Salemi is born 28 January 1825 and baptized the next day, named after his paternal grandfather. He is the son of Ciro Salemi and Domenica Oliveri. His godparents are Giuseppe and Gaetana Salemi, a married couple.

He is confirmed at age 4 on 16 November 1829 in Corleone. His sponsor is Vincenzo Ficarrotta.[1]

Stefano, a farmer (agricola), marries Bernarda Russo on 17 October 1852. His father is living, and his mother has died by this time.

Stefano and Bernarda have two known children together, Domenica (c. 1855) and Ciro (1857).

I estimate Domenica is born a couple years after her parents marry. She is named after her paternal grandmother.

Ciro is born 24 May 1857 in his parents' home in S. Michele Archangelo, Corleone, named after his paternal grandfather. Stefano, age 30 (b. 1827), reports his birth. Bernarda Russo is 28 (b. 1829). One of those giving testimony is Ciro's future father-in-law, Giuseppe Ligotino, age 25, agricola (farmer).

Stefano's father, Ciro, dies less than two weeks later, at age 65.

Stefano dies of pneumonia at age 46 in the hospital in Corleone, on 17 February 1871. He lives in the quarter of S. Giuliano, Corleone, and is married to Bernarda lo Russo at his death. The record of his death erroneously indicates that his mother, Domenica, also survives him.

Domenica marries Francesco Mancuso on 29 September 1883. Bernarda is still living at this time.[2]

Ciro marries Anna Maria Ligotino in January 1887. They have a son named after Stefano in November.
